Gundabad Orc
Gundabad Orcs are a breed of Orcs that inhabit the Misty Mountains and a large part of the region of Eriador.
Spawning
Gundabad Orcs spawn by night across a wide swath of northern Middle-earth. Apart from their home biomes, the Misty Mountains and the Grey Mountains, they ravage much of Rhovanion and greater Eriador. Even the few Orc-free biomes adjacent to or enclosed by these biomes can still be invaded or conquered by Gundabad, causing Gundabad Orcs to spawn there as well.
However, Gundabad Orcs only spawn in darkness in all of these biomes, meaning that they will only appear on the surface at night, though they can be found in dark areas, especially caves, day and night. While they can spawn alone, they are usually found in groups, which can be quite large. This can make mining in many northern biomes perilous for enemies of Gundabad unless they are well-prepared.
Behaviour
Gundabad Orcs will attack any foes of Gundabad, be they players with negative Gundabad alignment or enemy NPCs. When not in combat, they will wander aimlessly, but if many Gundabad Orcs are idle in close proximity, they may begin to skirmish among themselves. In biomes where Gundabad Wargs can also spawn, some Gundabad Orcs may spawn as Warg-Riders, making them much more dangerous than their unmounted comrades.
Gundabad Orcs are generally considered easy prey for good players, as they often spawn with substandard weapons or armour, making them targets for players seeking to earn Orcbane weapons. However, some Gundabad Orcs are stronger than others, and in groups, they can be more dangerous than one might expect.
Like all Orcs, Gundabad Orcs prefer darkness, and in direct sunlight they are subjected to slowness and weakness effects, making them easier to fight in the daytime.
If a player's Gundabad alignment is -500 or lower, Gundabad Orcs will often flee from them in terror - but only when the player is facing them. If the player looks away, the fleeing Orcs will turn around and attack from behind. This does not apply to Gundabad Orcs that spawn in invasions or that are hired by players, which never flee regardless of an enemy player's alignment. Warg-Riders also do not flee, as the Wargs they are mounted on control their pathing.
Strategy
- If you want to avoid conflict with Orcs, make sure to sleep through the night when travelling through Orc territories.
- When fighting Orcs, use long ranged weapons like spears as basic Orcs are smaller and have a shorter reach.
- Try to draw them away and fight them one at a time, because many Orcs can overwhelm you, especially with insufficient equipment.
Lore
Gundabad Orcs recieved their name for the sacking of a dwarven mountain fortress named Mount Gundabad during the Second Age.
